Radial Set-Out Sheet

Enter an instrument station, a backsight point and an ordered design-point list to prepare grid bearings, horizontal distances and clockwise angles from the backsight. Print the field sheet or download its rows as CSV; all calculations stay in this browser.

Uses only this tool title and its public link. Inputs, results, coordinates and filenames are not included. Sharing starts only when you press the button.

Free advisory field tool — every result is computed in your browser from the inputs you provide and is advisory and unverified, not for survey deliverables. Where a published guideline applies, results only ever read “within guideline” or “exceeds guideline — review”. The full working is shown for every calculation so each step can be re-checked. Registered surveyor confirmation required before reliance.

Instrument setup

Station, backsight and design points

Bearings are clockwise from grid north. The check angle is clockwise from the backsight zero to each design point. RL and instrument height are sheet metadata only.

How to prepare a radial set-out sheet

Enter the occupied station, backsight and design points, then review and print the browser-local radial set-out schedule.

  1. Enter the station and backsight

Enter the occupied station and backsight coordinates, plus optional sheet metadata such as RL and instrument height.

  2. Add the design points

Paste the ordered point identifiers and coordinates, or load the fictional worked example.

  3. Review and prepare the sheet

Inspect each grid bearing, horizontal distance and clockwise backsight angle, then print the sheet or download its local CSV rows.

Questions about Radial set-out sheet

Can I use this page as a set out sheet template?

Yes, as an advisory radial working sheet. Enter the station, backsight and design points, review the calculated schedule, then print it or prepare the CSV locally in the browser.

What does the radial set-out sheet calculate?

For each design point it shows the grid bearing, horizontal distance and clockwise horizontal angle from the station-to-backsight direction.

Do RL and instrument height create vertical set-out values?

No. RL and instrument height are sheet metadata only. The tool does not calculate a vertical angle, target height, curvature or refraction correction.
