Offset from Design Line Checker

Calculate along-distance and signed perpendicular offset for as-constructed points against an oriented A-to-B plane-grid line, then apply project-entered warning and failure limits and download the browser-local schedule as CSV.

Uses only this tool title and its public link. Inputs, results, coordinates and filenames are not included. Sharing starts only when you press the button.

Free advisory field tool — every result is computed in your browser from the inputs you provide and is advisory and unverified, not for survey deliverables. Where a published guideline applies, results only ever read “within guideline” or “exceeds guideline — review”. The full working is shown for every calculation so each step can be re-checked. Registered surveyor confirmation required before reliance.

Design line and project limits

Enter A→B and the as-constructed points

A and B establish an oriented, unbounded plane-grid line. Positive offset is left looking A→B; negative is right outside the numeric side envelope described below. No default tolerance is supplied—enter the limits selected for the current project.

Line start A
Line end B
Project-selected limits

At this limit remains OK; an exceedance beyond the numeric envelope becomes WARN.

Must exceed the warning limit; an exceedance beyond the numeric envelope becomes FAIL.

CSV or whitespace rows; a Point ID,E,N header is optional. Point IDs must be unique. CSV files are read only in this browser tab.

Enter calculates from a single-line field. Enter still adds a new line in pasted lists.

Offset schedule

Along-distance, signed offset and advisory tag

Enter both project limits and at least one as-constructed point to prepare the schedule.

Method

How to use the offset-from-line calculator

Define an oriented plane-grid line, enter project limits and compare browser-local point rows with their full numeric context.

  1. Define the oriented line

Enter different plane-grid coordinates for line points A and B; positive offset is left while looking from A to B.

  2. Enter limits and point rows

Supply the current project warning and failure limits, then paste rows or select a local CSV containing point ID, easting and northing.

  3. Review the comparison schedule

Inspect each raw coordinate, along-distance, signed offset, side, span location, advisory tag and numeric envelope before using the schedule.

Australian surveying FAQ

Questions about Offset from design line

What does an offset from line calculator in Australia show?

This offset from line calculator reports along-distance, signed and absolute offset, side, reference-span location and an advisory tag for each entered point in Australia.

Where do the warning and failure limits come from?

They are project values entered by the user. The tool supplies no default limit and does not infer a jurisdictional criterion or project applicability.

Does a selected CSV leave the browser?

No. The file is read in the current browser tab, and the local schedule retains raw calculation values while display rounding remains separate.
