Lot Subdivision Area Helper

Choose one side of a simple convex plane-grid polygon and move a parallel working line inward until the side-adjoining portion reaches the requested area. The cut coordinates, balance area and full calculation trace remain visible for independent review.

Uses only this tool title and its public link. Inputs, results, coordinates and filenames are not included. Sharing starts only when you press the button.

Free advisory field tool — every result is computed in your browser from the inputs you provide and is advisory and unverified, not for survey deliverables. Where a published guideline applies, results only ever read “within guideline” or “exceeds guideline — review”. The full working is shown for every calculation so each step can be re-checked. Registered surveyor confirmation required before reliance.

Convex plane-grid polygon

Boundary, side and target area

Paste the ordered boundary vertices, choose the side retained by the new portion, and enter its requested area. The working line stays parallel to that side and moves inward.

One E,N pair per line. A header and repeated final copy of point 1 are accepted. Simple strictly convex rings only.

Side i runs from Pi to the next entered point; the last side closes to P1.

Must be greater than zero and less than the source polygon area.

Enter calculates from a single-line field. Enter still adds a new line in pasted lists.

How to use the lot subdivision calculator

Enter a convex plane-grid boundary, choose the retained side and request an area for a provisional parallel-cut calculation.

  1. Enter the ordered boundary

Paste at least three easting and northing vertices for one simple, strictly convex plane-grid ring in boundary order.

  2. Choose side and area

Select the side adjoining the requested portion and enter a target area greater than zero and smaller than the source area.

  3. Review both provisional portions

Inspect the parallel cut, cut endpoints, requested-area difference, both coordinate rings and the full working before further design review.

Australian surveying FAQ

Questions about Lot subdivision area helper

What does a lot subdivision calculator in Australia produce?

This lot subdivision calculator places a parallel working line in a simple convex plane-grid polygon and reports two provisional coordinate rings for review in Australia.

Can the helper process a concave boundary?

No. The current calculation is limited to a simple strictly convex ring, with the chosen-side portion adjoining one entered polygon side.

Does the result establish a legal subdivision boundary?

No. Title status, planning requirements, access, easements, services, minimum dimensions, datum, scale and field marking remain outside this area helper.
