Lot Area & Perimeter from Coordinates

Paste an ordered Easting, Northing coordinate list to calculate plane shoelace area in square metres and hectares, closing-ring perimeter, orientation, and each leg's grid bearing and distance. Exact duplicate vertices and self-intersections are shown for review.

Free advisory field tool — every result is computed in your browser from the inputs you provide and is advisory and unverified, not for survey deliverables. Where a published guideline applies, results only ever read “within guideline” or “exceeds guideline — review”. The full working is shown for every calculation so each step can be re-checked. Registered surveyor confirmation required before reliance.

Ordered boundary vertices

Paste Easting, Northing

One E,N pair per line, comma or whitespace separated. An E,N header and a repeated final copy of point 1 are accepted. Point order controls the boundary.

Plane grid coordinates only; no datum transformation or ground-scale conversion is applied.

Enter calculates from a single-line field. Enter still adds a new line in pasted lists.

How to calculate lot area from an ordered coordinate list

Paste an ordered plane-grid ring, calculate its geometry and inspect the topology cues before relying on the figures.

  1. Prepare the vertex order

List each Easting and Northing once in consecutive boundary order; the tool closes the final point back to the first.

  2. Paste or load the coordinates

Paste comma-separated or whitespace-separated E,N rows, or load the fictional worked example.

  3. Review area and topology

Inspect square metres, hectares, perimeter, orientation, each leg and any duplicate or self-intersection cue.

Australian surveying FAQ

Questions about Lot area from coordinates

Can I calculate lot area from coordinates in MGA2020 format?

You can paste Easting and Northing values in an MGA2020-style list, but the calculator treats them as generic plane-grid coordinates. It does not establish the actual datum, zone or epoch.

What order should the lot vertices use?

Enter consecutive boundary vertices around one ring. Do not repeat the first point at the end; the tool closes the last vertex back to the first and reports the orientation.

Is the displayed square-metre or hectare value a title or ground area?

No. It is a plane shoelace magnitude from the entered coordinates. The tool does not infer combined scale factor, title boundary status or ground area, and a crossing ring needs review.
